For everyone’s information, if you are a member of our Club you will receive free entry any way to Goulburn, Kembla, Moruya, Queanbeyan, Sapphire, Hawkesbury and Muswellbrook.
Just a few items to remember when in the enclosure. You are not permitted to use mobile phones in the enclosure.
If you do have a mobile phone just put it on silent and ensure that you don’t use it.
When the horses are parading, owners normally stand away from the actual horses.
The trainer and/or jockey will usually find the owners. I suggest that you introduce yourselves to the jockey.
If you are unsure of who your jockey is just look for the colours, as shown in the race book, or most jockeys have their names
down the side of their riding pants.
Normally you will hear the instructions from the trainer to the jockey.
These instructions are on how the race should be approached, e.g. pull back and come home, lead, or something similar.
By the way don’t be surprised if the instructions go out the window when the race is under way.
Sometimes horses have their own ideas or jockeys are unable to follow instructions due to other things that happen in the race.
After the horses leave the enclosure owners normally do the same and find somewhere suitable to watch the race.
Some clubs do have member’s areas or special places for owners to go whilst the race is in progress.
At the conclusion of the race most owners, winners and losers, go back into the enclosure to talk once again to the trainer and/or jockey.
The jockey will usually give you his thoughts on how the horse performed and suggestions for future races.
It is imperative that you don’t actually touch the jockey. Although this is not strictly enforced at country clubs it is in Sydney and can cause problems
even if you are just shaking hands so it is a good habit to adopt.
If, or should I say when, our horse wins you will be invited by most race clubs to go to the “winners” after the presentation to view the race again and receive your DVD.
As I said before we only receive one DVD for all of us to share and winners only receive a complimentary DVD.
Extra DVD’s can be purchased on the day or ordered from the specially marked van on course.
You can order your DVD prior to the race and I think it may be less expensive if you provide your own blank DVD.
DVD’s can be purchased by anyone and it doesn’t mean that your horse has to win to obtain a DVD.
Photos of the presentation will also be available for purchasing from the photographer on site on the day.
Normally the photographer will take your details and send you a proof with prices.
You can then choose the photos you want and arrange to purchase them individually.
I will add that it is a lot of fun being an owner, especially when your horse wins or performs well.
I have spent many times talking about the wins and believe me they getter better with each telling.
I have also witnessed many owners in our own committee room after the race and the excitement they share is infectious and puts everyone on a high.
